Many, many moons ago, back in the days of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, a group of us got together every week for ‘TV Night’. ‘TV Night’ has undergone numerous changes over the years as you can imagine: people joining, people leaving, sustenance migrating from a bowl of popcorn to multi-course meals etc.. To thank this crew, well the current one anyway :), the next time it was our turn to provide dinner I decided to up the ante a little and morph ‘TV Night’ into a Martini party. So, I came up with a list of martinis (including one mocktail for those who wish not to imbibe) and presented it to my friends. You can find PDF’s with the Martini menu (give this to your guests), the Martini recipes (hold onto this or give it to your designated bartender) and the Martini shopping list (um, you better deal with this one before your party so that you have what you need!) at the bottom of this article. First off though, the results!!

As I had mentioned previously, ‘TV Night’ morphed over the years. One, now standard feature, is that it is held at the house of the couple who has the most kids (which happens to be my brother and sister-in-law’s place). This posed our first obstacle, one which you won’t have to deal with normally, in that we had to pack everything up and transport it. This in itself, prompted me to make a menu that had a wide variety of cocktails available, but with not too many ingredients.

Observations: The crew loved the idea! Many martinis were made by my beau, but ultimately, most were made by the people at the party. One individual in particular, had never made a cocktail before so was extremely keen (something that we were very pleased with as we were also dealing with getting dinner ready). Ray, you rock!! Another important note; the mocktail option (‘Mock Cosmo’) was greatly appreciated by not just those who don’t imbibe, but by my (wee) nephews. Oh, how I hope they didn’t tell their teachers the next day that they had martinis the night before :).

Bottom line: It was relatively easy to pull off, the party-goers not only loved the drinks but the ideas/format as well, and we all had a fantastic time. Just make sure that you’ve got lots of jiggers and lots of shakers, as everyone is going to want to get a piece of the action.

Ms. Mixologist, you are sooo awesome. I really think I must come to your abode so I may try some of your concoctions with you and your Beau. I do have quite a thirst after reading your recipes.

Keep up the good work. I do very much look forward to each of your new installments.
